High School with its seven additions is sited on thirteen
and a half acres of prime town land. Consideration has to
be given to the natural qualities of the site.
Preservation and restoration of this area will
significantly enhance the beauty of the campus. |
| |
We advocate consulting a landscape architect who is
sensitive to the original plantings along with those that
students and faculty have added to the site. |
| |
The landscape plan should take into account the
floodplain, wetlands, and river-front areas as controlled
by the Natural Resources Commission. Trees and plantings
should reflect and enhance the natural setting. |
| |
The towns parklands and adjacent fields should be
incorporated into a Landscape Plan for the High School.
Current access to athletic areas, including the football
field, should be preserved and perhaps can be improved. |
| |
We need to ensure that the character, integrity, and
tranquility of the High School neighborhood are preserved
at the level and to the extent to which the residents of
the neighborhood are entitled and have become accustomed,
including during the time of the project. |
| |
Many natural paths and surfaced walkways surround the
high school site. Analysis of direction and use,
incorporation with existing and future entrances,
expansion or reduction of width and length should fit
current and future pedestrian needs. |
| |
Lighting on and around the site should maximize safety
and security concerns. Attractive lighting should be
designed and installed to enhance the beauty of the
walkways and the building. |
| |
Parking analysis should determine maximum and efficient
usage by faculty, students, and visitors. Every attempt
should be made to accommodate vehicles without
overburdening the site. At the same time, restoration of
original grounds and green spaces, especially in the
front of the High School, should be undertaken.
Beautification of the parking area should be a high
priority. Any parking areas should blend into the
landscape design of the site. |
| |
A study of traffic
control and automobile entry into the High School area
should be undertaken to identify any bottlenecks.
Also, ideal areas for bus stops and loading docks should
be evaluated in order to reduce traffic impact and
maximize efficient access to the High School. |
| |
Enhancing the present exterior gathering spaces at the
front of the High School and preserving the Courtyard at
the rear of the building are important to the quality of
student life. Considerations should be given to adding
even more gathering spaces. |
| |
A sufficiently staffed and qualified grounds crew is
needed maintain the site and keep it in peak condition. |
